Understanding a Higher Bill - Electricity and Water Checklist

To help you explore possible reasons for a higher bill, we’ve created the Entegrus Customer Checklist that outlines common factors that can influence your bill.

You’ll also find helpful tips on saving electricity and water, checking for water leaks & understanding seasonal impacts on usage.

Electricity

The Electricity Checklist helps you identify changes that may have contributed to a higher bill, such as:

  • More people at home or changes to your schedule

  • Filling a pool or hot tub
  • Silent leaks or consistent drips from toilets, taps, or fixtures
  • Water softeners or sump pumps running more often than expected

Suspect a Water Leak?

Silent leaks or consistent drips from toilets, taps, or fixtures can affect your water bill.

Toilets are commonly responsible for water leaks. The Dye Test process below could help you determine if a toilet could be the source. If you cannot find the source, contact a plumber.

Toilet Dye Test: Add food colouring to the tank. Wait 30 minutes. If colour appears in the bowl, the toilet may be leaking

Overnight Meter Reading Test: Turn off all water. Record your meter reading before bed and check it in the morning. A change may indicate a hidden leak. If your leak indicator spins with no water use, you likely have a leak
