What should I have in an emergency kit?

Although Entegrus strives to minimize power outages and restore power as quickly as possible, it is best to be prepared.

Consider having the following items on hand:

  • Flashlights and fresh batteries
  • Battery-powered radios or televisions
  • Back up portable charger
  • Candles, matches, or lighters

In case of an extended power outage:

  • Water for drinking and cooking
  • Portable heater (oil or gas)*
  • Camping equipment (sleeping bags, camp stoves, lanterns)
  • Canned goods and a manual can opener
  • Manufacturers' instructions for power-operated equipment such as the garage door, generator

* Caution: Some portable heaters can cause fires or other safety hazards when not used as specified by the manufacturer. Be sure to review the safety specifications of your specific model before using it during an outage.

You may also wish to include the following additional items in an emergency preparedness kit:

  • First aid kit
  • Telephone that can work during a power interruption, or a 'battery bank' to charge a cell phone
  • Important papers / identification
  • Medication
  • Toilet paper / personal items
  • Playing cards, books, games - items to keep children entertained
